What will thriving wellness look like for you?
What will thriving wellness look like for you?
Who am I?
I'm an herbalist & ecotherapist.
Ecotherapy concerns itself with the health of mind/body/spirt and earth or whole-person health in relation to the earth. It encompasses herbalism, nutrition, movement, nature connection, mind/body health, and more!
This stuff is my heart's passion. I eat, sleep, dream, read, study, obsess, breathe, it. - and then go hang out and relax in the wilds - so I can come home and do it all some more!
Thousands of years of evolutionary history and recent science both confirm the extensive health benefits, on all levels, when people and nature are in harmony.
Alternative Healthcare for Everyone!
A Bit About Health Justice
In holding space for nature connection to happen, I'm continually asking questions and seeking solutions around how to build my businss in such a way that it both provides a living wage for me and creates a new container that can carry these nature-based, alternative healthcare practices to the masses. Right now, any holistic healthcare is all too often a pricey, out-of-pocket service available only to the privileged - compounding healthcare disparities and contributing to systemic oppression.
My mission is to use herbalism & ecotherapy as means of addressing healthcare disparities, providing wellness to those without healthcare insurance, and holding space for nurturing care for those discriminatd against in the healthcare system. To this end, I've created seasonal, online, herbal education on a sliding scale fee basis in order to provide people with basic herbal knowledge to meet their own healthcare needs. I'm working to build a network to create alternative-healthcare, pay-as-you-wish clinics. I'll be offering some free talks, have a free monthly newsletter, and will be creating some group workshops at a lower rate than my consulting fee. I'm eager to network with others who are passionate about health justice, so please reach out!
All of my classes and events are non discriminating on the basis of age, gender, sexuality, race, religion, size, ability, or other factors. I seek to use inclusive language on products and in writing. I welcome a head's up if I miss something!

A Little More About Me
For professional background and education click here.

Here's the informal bio:
If you're looking for the degrees, research, and professional background, check out the link above. This is the informal story of how I got to where I am today: I spent the first 30+ years of my life pursuing a fundamentalist religious life that I no longer adhere to. My passion was to be a missionary because I saw that as the ultimate way to bring healing and joy to people's lives. Slowly my eyes were open to the lack of love - in what claimed to be a path of love... and that's when I started to question everything. I then spent the next decade picking through the rubble heap of my life to discover what was really me and what was not... years of rebuilding....
During this tumultuous transition, I became interested in mindfulness and worked on some published research, which led to an interest in psychology and a desire for grad school. I was accepted into a psychology doctorate program, loved it, and had landed a presigious first year practicum. But ultimately, I decided I wanted to create my own path, one that would allow me to hold space for wellness on *all* levels for my clients. Most of the psych world was not ready to acknowledge research on relationships between food and mental health or the proven health benefits of time in nature; insurance companies that dictated policies were even more antiquated. And heck! I'd crossed every "t" and dotted ever "i" doing what people told me was best for 30 years. It was time to do my own thing now!
I dropped out of my doctorate in favor of an MA in Liberal Studies focused on Ecopsychology and then an MS in Herbalism. I love, love what I do and haven't for a second regretted following my heart! I won't say it's all been easy. It's been crazy difficult at times. But it's also been gloriously wonderful and worth it!
In the middle of all of this transition and rebuilding, I got divorced, came down with late-adult-onset Crohn's disease, and wasted down to 105 lbs of weakness that couldn't walk next door without being severely winded and dizzy. I also contracted Lyme disease. I've used herbs and diet to heal and keep the Crohn's in remission - no meds. I feel pretty darned good now - though I still have a ways to go to get my energy and strength all back!!
As a child I danced ballet and hung out with a lot of Boy Scouts (Strange life. I know!) and from those expriences arose a deep love of the arts, a deep appreciation for the outdoors, and an interest in health and fitness.
So there you have it, a bit of the inside story... I have a background in psychology, ecopsychology, theology and spirituality, mindfulness, sustainability, dance, nutrition, herbalism, gardening, and living - to the best of my ability - in relationship with the earth and the seasons. But of all of these things that I do and I love, truly my deepest joy is being mama to the world's best 12 year old. She's homeschooled/unschooled, so we have the privilege of spending many of our days adventuring through life together. You can check out her pets herbal work at PawsforHerbs.com
All this to say, I know what it's like to transition; I get the pain and joy of change and growth. I know what it's like to be incredibly sick - and then to find wellness again... I'd love to connect with you and hold space for your own process. Your path won't look just like mine, and I'm not here to tell you what to do. I don't diagnose or treat anything. What I do is hold space for us to explore resources and education on topics of your choosing so you can figure out what YOU need to thrive.
On a practical level... we connect, we talk, and through relationship I offer threads - be they herbs, ideas for spiritual connection, dance, immersion in nature, or questions for self-discovery. You choose what resonates with you. In the end, my goal is for you to feel more connected, healthy, whole, and fulfilled in your passion and purpose, Not just surviving, but THRIVING!
The one thing that hasn't changed for me is that I'm still passionate about seeing people live with wellness and joy! If that's not you, then give me a call or shoot me an email!

What is Nature Connection?
Nature connection occurs in 3 ways: getting out into nature, bringing elements of nature indoors, and adopting more natural ways of being.
Both indigenous wisdom and a plethora of peer-reviewed, published scientific research details the positive effects of time spent in nature, of having access to views of nature and nature art, of eating nature's foods, of using herbs to balance our health, of moving in primal/natural ways, and of living a lifestyle wherein our own nature is interwoven with Nature. This doesn't have to mean "back to the land" - although for some it might. I help you find ways to align your nature with Nature in the modern, technological age.
When we make choices that are sustainable and healthy for us, these tend to often be good for the earth as well. Furthermore, research shows that people who feel a sense of nature connectedness are more likely to make every-day choices that are environmentally friendly. So nature connection provides wellness all around!
